HAWTHORN BERRIES

DESCRIPTION: Hawthorn Berries have long been used around the world for many different purposes, including jellies and flours. They come from a small, spiny tree indigenous to the Mediterranean region. Throughout history, hawthorn has had a reputation both as a symbol of hope and as a symbol of evil. At one time Christianity regarded the plant as sacred, due to the belief that it furnished Christís crown of thorns. Hawthorn is especially popular in Europe, where it is used in a number of herbal tinctures, herbal combinations and teas. The berriesí effects on the circulatory system have been researched in Europe. Certain chemical constituents in the berries seem to enhance enzyme metabolism and oxygen utilization in the heart muscle. The berries should be taken over a period of time for their full nutritional benefits to be realized. Hawthorn Berries contain vitamins and B complex, crataegin, carotene, flavonoids and sugars. Liquid extracts are especially useful for those who have difficulty swallowing capsules. The key constituents of the hawthorn berries are extracted using a combination of grain alcohol and distilled water. Extracts are rapidly assimilated by the body and can be mixed in liquid or taken directly under the tongue.

DESCRIPTION: Hops is best known as the preservative and flavor used to make beer. However, hops has also been used by herbalists for centuries to reduce nervous tension. Hops acts as a natural sedative to calm the nerves and reduce stress and anxiety. Hops also promotes a good night's rest by counter-acting the effects of sleeplessness and insomnia. Hops is rich in vitamin C and B-complex, and also contains various minerals. The natural antibiotic and antibacterial properties found in hops is beneficial in promoting healthy kidney functions, treating urinary tract infections and reducing painful urination. Hops is beneficial as a digestive aid, stimulating the production of digestive fluids. Hops has been known to stimulate the appetite and relieve constipation and painful menstruation and headaches.
HORSETAIL

DESCRIPTION: Horsetail, also known as ìshavegrassî, is a perennial that grows in moist, loamy soil all over the world, excluding Australia and New Zealand. Native Americans and Mexicans used the rugged stems to scrub pots. Horsetail contains the highest amount of silicon of all known herbs. The best dietary source of silicon is whole grains -- meaning much of our dietary silicon is lost in the refining process. In addition to silicon, horsetail contains large amounts of potassium as well as aconitic acid, equiaitinee, starch and many fatty acids.
HYDRANGEA

CONDITION: Kidney Problems, Bladder, Urinary Tract, Prostate, Inflammation

DESCRIPTION: Hydrangea, an elegant shrub that grows readily in the southern and midwestern U.S., is a bitter and a solvent. Hydrangea contains chromium, manganese and silicon, and its solvent properties nutritionally support the urinary system. In herbology, the dried, powdered root is used.
